Rising ICON #7: Kasey Devine

What name do you prefer to be called?
Kasey

What are your pronouns?
He/Him

Where did you grow up?
Good ol’ St. Louis, MO!

What city are you currently based in?
Edina, MN

How do you typically introduce yourself to new people?
Hey! How’s it going? I’m Kasey.

What’s one thing you wish more people knew about you?
I genuinely try to help everyone I meet somehow, no matter how big or small.

Who do you help?
I primarily help entrepreneurs and growth-minded sales professionals to achieve something they never thought possible. Usually that’s through mentoring, coaching, HR support, and connecting them into my network.

What are you building now?
I’ve continued my path in the HR & Tech world and am building the go-to-market team and strategy for an HR Managed Services provider dedicated to the Senior Care industry.

What were you building ten years ago today?
Ten years ago, I was finishing up college at Mizzou dreaming of my career as a dynamic Sport Management professional (ha! How quickly things change…).

What do you predict of yourself 10 years from now?
10 years from now I’ll be hanging out with my wife, Erin, and our kids, as I scale a company as CEO or Founder.

What’s a fact or statistic you wish everyone knew about your industry?
We’re not trying to “take over your business,” and on average, companies that partner with our industry are proven to out-perform their competitors financially.

Why do you believe the work you do matters?
The work I do matters because it impacts people. Even in the B2B landscape, people make up companies, not the other way around. When you serve a company, there’s a positive ripple effect to their employees, communities, and their end users, too! It all matters.

Who is your mentor and what is the best advice they’ve given you?
Shout out to Alex Metz for reminding me to always “Assume Positive Intent.”

What piece of content about you or your company are you most proud of?
I was proud to deliver a successful keynote presentation at Twin Cities Startup Week 2022 with less than 48 hours to prepare. Check it out here Piecing Together the Talent Puzzle - 4 Truths About Finding and Keeping Talent - YouTube

What publication do you hope to appear in next?
The Twin Cities Business Journal or something similar…would love to share my experience rising quickly in Leadership roles to other up-and-coming professionals who want to help others and grow.

Who would you love to be interviewed by?
It’s got to be my hometown entrepreneur hero, Andy Frisella, on Real AF or the MFCEO Project.

If you had to give a TEDTalk tomorrow, what would the title be?
“Nobody is coming to save us. Own it!”

What award would mean the most to win?
I mean, some sort of 40-under-40 or “Top 100” list locally or regionally would just tickle me pink.

What makes zero sense to you?
Not asking for help because you assume nobody can or wants to help. Our problems are often way less unique than our egos lead us to believe.
What’s a word in your industry you hope gets re-evaluated? Priority. Somewhere along the way we let that become plural, and it’s not meant to be.

What game are you changing?
The “it’s always been this way” game, wherever and whenever I see it and it’s not backed up with currently relevant reasons.

What’s the next thing you’re a part of that you want to invite more people to participate in?
Midwest-based Startup events. Get out there and get to know people. We have an amazing, supportive community of people who want to help…we’re just more spread out than other communities.

What’s one thing that makes every leader better?
Radical Candor. Read the book if you haven’t…it will change your leadership life.
